Priti Patel: The Child of Immigrants who Hates Immigrants

Priti Patel, a second-generation immigrant who has some serious identity issues. Under laws introduced by Priti Patel, her own parents' ability to stay in the country would be put in jeopardy. The new Borders and Nationality bill introduced by the Home Office, not only allows the Home Secretary to strip someone of their citizenship entirely without warning but would also essentially criminalise asylum seekers.

Under the new legislation, Priti Patel would be able to strip British born and bred citizens of their rights. Clause 9 of the bill enables the government to scrap someone’s citizenship if they believe it is “reasonably practicable” to do so. To make matters even more draconian, no warning has to be given if it is considered within national security or public interest to omit such information. This new approach is highly likely to discriminate against people of colour, as it is derived from a racist system.

Clause 10 of the very boldly anti-immigration bill divides migrants into two separate categories, those who enter the country via legal borders and with the correct documentation (group 1) and everyone else (asylum seekers) is classed as group 2. Now according to the bill, depending on how you enter the UK, whether you are group 1 or 2 will determine the level of support you are offered in settling in. If of course, the government classifies you as group 2, then your rights will be severely restricted, with no access to ‘family reunion’.These asylum seekers will be held in so-called temporary detention centres. All this maltreatment simply for entering a country illegally, even though there is no legal way of seeking asylum.

Men, women and children fleeing war-ridden countries to seek safety are facing a great risk at the hands of Priti Patel and the UK government. The risk of not being granted asylum or not even making it as far as the land and dying at sea after being pushed back by UK border officers.

The cruel irony of it all? Most of these migrants are fleeing countries where the UK plays a key role in exacerbating war. In recent months there has been an influx of migrants from the Middle East. The UK is the biggest arms exporter to Saudi Arabia, the very country responsible for the displacement of thousands of Yemeni people, and the death of thousands more. Meanwhile, those fleeing from Afghanistan, are trying to escape the threat imposed by the Taliban seizing control.

Both the U.S. and the UK occupied Afghanistan for several years in order to ‘support it’ against the Taliban, yet within days of stopping all foreign interference, the Taliban took over, so how much help did they really offer? If the UK government harbours all this hate for asylum seekers, then maybe it should stop giving these innocent people reasons to seek asylum.

The Borders and Nationality bill is just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to Priti Patel’s love for social injustices. If you simply look at her voting record, you will find that:

• Priti Patel has generally voted AGAINST equal gay rights.

• Priti Patel has generally voted AGAINST same-sex marriage

• Priti Patel has generally voted AGAINST laws to promote equality and human rights

• Priti Patel has consistently voted AGAINST welfare benefits

• Priti Patel has consistently voted FOR reducing housing benefits

• Priti Patel voted AGAINST investigations into the Iraq war

In conclusion, Priti Patel is an insecure and evil woman, who reflects her self-hatred on those less fortunate than her, because no one is there to speak up for them.
